2507 Alloy Super Duplex Stainless Steel
Description
Alloy 2507, also known as Super Duplex Stainless Steel, is a high-performance alloy with excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and durability. It is specifically designed to withstand harsh environments, making it ideal for various industrial applications.
Applications
Alloy 2507 is widely used in offshore platforms, oil and gas industry, chemical processing plants, desalination plants, pulp and paper industry, and other applications where resistance to corrosion, high strength, and durability are crucial.
Blacksmith Applications
For blacksmiths, Alloy 2507 is commonly used in fabricating high-quality tools such as chisels, hammers, tongs, punches, and other applications where exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, and toughness are required.
2507 Forging Temperature
Forging of Alloy 2507 should be carried out in the range of 2100°F to 2300°F (1149°C to 1260°C), followed by rapid cooling in water or air to achieve optimum properties.
2507 Heat Treatment
2507 Annealing Temperature
Annealing is typically performed at 1950°F to 2100°F (1066°C to 1149°C) for a sufficient amount of time, followed by water quenching or air cooling to relieve internal stresses and enhance corrosion resistance.
2507 Normalizing Temperature
Normalizing can be performed at 1870°F to 2050°F (1021°C to 1121°C) with a proper soaking time, followed by air cooling or water quenching to improve the alloy's mechanical properties.
2507 Hardening Temperature
Hardening treatment for Alloy 2507 involves heating the steel to 1870°F to 2050°F (1021°C to 1121°C) and then quenching in water or oil to achieve maximum hardness and strength.
2507 Tempering Temperature
To achieve the desired balance of hardness and toughness, tempering of Alloy 2507 should be carried out between 1100°F to 1400°F (593°C to 760°C) followed by air cooling.
Machinability
Alloy 2507 exhibits good machinability with appropriate cutting tools and techniques. It is important to use suitable coolant and efficient chip evacuation methods to ensure excellent surface finish and prolong tool life.
Weldability
Alloy 2507 possesses good weldability. However, it is recommended to use low heat input welding techniques and appropriate filler materials to achieve optimal weld quality and minimize the risk of thermal distortion or embrittlement.
